Beard Coloring
Believability before coverage.
The eye decides in a second whether a beard is real or applied. Coverage is easy. The second is
the entire job.
The Method
The eye decides in a second whether a beard is real or applied. That second is the entire job.
Beard colour is read first by the eye and second by the brain. The man across the room cannot tell that the colour is there. He only sees that the face looks settled. The mistake most rooms make is matching beard colour to scalp hair. They are rarely the same in nature. Beard hair runs warmer, runs coarser, and accepts pigment differently. Force them to match and the work announces itself.
I work the opposite way, choosing tones that belong to the skin, the age of the face, and the natural variation the beard already carries. The pigment is selected from the same protected line I use across all chemical work, so the skin underneath is not punished for the result on top.
Coverage is not the goal. Believability is. A man should leave the chair and never have to mention what was done.
